Four Heller Ehrman IP Lawyers Recognized by Daily Journal

Fram, Haslam and Thayer Among Top 50 IP Litigators; Hurst Among Top 10 Trademark Lawyers

(SAN FRANCISCO) April 9, 2008 – Heller Ehrman has announced that Robert D. Fram, Robert T. Haslam and M. Patricia Thayer have been named to The Daily Journal’s inaugural list of the “Top 50 IP Litigators in California.”  Annette Hurst has been named to The Daily Journal’s list of “Top 10 Trademark Lawyers.”  Fram, Haslam, Hurst and Thayer are members of Heller Ehrman’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice.

Heller Ehrman was one of only a few firms to have three or more lawyers on the Top 50 list, which appears in the April 9 issue of The Daily Journal, a daily newspaper that covers law firms in California.  Selections were based on nominations of California-based attorneys who work for law firms, corporations, non-profits or universities.

“One of the many qualities that sets our IP Litigation Practice apart is that, in addition to having talented lawyers, we have been successful representing companies from a wide range of business and technology sectors,” said Heller Ehrman Chairman Matt Larrabee.  “Each of the four lawyers who were recognized by The Daily Journal has demonstrated the ability to apply legal expertise to resolve IP disputes, from early-stage negotiation through trial and appeal.”

Heller Ehrman’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice consists of more than 80 IP litigators.  The firm’s IP clients include industry leaders such as Allergan, Apple, CA, Depomed, Genentech, Mylan Pharmaceuticals, Palm, Symantec, Texas Instruments, Visa and Yahoo!

Robert D. Fram joined the firm in 1992 and he is based in the firm’s San Francisco office.  He has substantial experience litigating patent, trade secret and licensing cases to obtain favorable results for clients such as Apple, CA, SAP, Fujitsu and Palm.

Robert T. Haslam joined the firm in 1976 and he is based in the firm’s Silicon Valley office.  He represents clients in patent and trade secret litigation involving a range of arts and practices, including semiconductor products and processes, cryptography, GPS and cellular technology, electronic circuits, microprocessors and software products and medical devices.  Haslam is a member of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a former chair of the Northern District of California’s Patent Rules Revision Committee.

Annette Hurst joined the firm in 2005 and she is based in the firm’s San Francisco office.  Her practice focuses on copyright, trademark and trade secret litigation before federal and state courts in California, New York and several other jurisdictions.  Her litigation skills encompass all phases of legal and factual analysis and investigation, discovery, expert discovery, trial preparation, jury and bench trials, alternative dispute resolution and settlement negotiation.

M. Patricia Thayer joined the firm in 1999 and she is Co-Chair of Heller Ehrman’s Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Group.  She is based in the firm’s San Francisco office.  Thayer focuses on complex patent litigation for life sciences companies, including biopharmaceuticals, diagnostics, drug delivery systems and medical devices.  She has also represented hardware and software clients in patent litigation and assisted a wide range of life sciences, Internet and retail companies in litigation and arbitration involving trademark, trade secret and copyright disputes.
