(SAN DIEGO) March 26, 2008 – Heller Ehrman has announced that Stephen M. Balcomb has been named the firm’s Chief Administrative Officer. Balcomb will continue to be based in Heller Ehrman’s San Diego office and he will report to Brad Scott, the firm’s Chief Operating Officer. Prior to being named CAO, Balcomb was a director of office administration for Heller Ehrman’s San Diego and Los Angeles offices.
Balcomb will work closely with the local management teams in each of the firm’s 14 offices and direct the firm’s administrative and operational strategy, including management of the firm’s facilities, secretarial support and office support services. He also will oversee office leases and firmwide operations contracts, and work closely with other senior staff, including Suzanne Hawkins, who joined Heller Ehrman in September 2007 as Chief of Practice Excellence.
“Steve knows Heller Ehrman about as well as anyone else in the firm and he has proven leadership skills,” said Scott, who joined Heller Ehrman in October 2007 from Weil, Gotshal & Manges, where he was Executive Director for two years. “In addition to working with our San Diego and Los Angeles offices, Steve has been directly involved in several firmwide initiatives and he’s familiar with the great people and various processes we have in all 14 of our locations.”
Balcomb has nearly 15 years of law firm management experience. Prior to serving as a regional director of administration at Heller Ehrman, he served in several firmwide positions. Balcomb was interim chief marketing officer until June 2006 and he was project director of Heller Ehrman’s merger with Venture Law Group in 2003. He also previously served as chief administrative officer at Cox, Castle & Nicholson LLP, after holding human resources and operations manager positions at that firm.

Balcomb earned a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Los Angeles.
