(SAN FRANCISCO) March 09, 2008 – Heller Ehrman was named one of the leading litigation firms in Northern California by The Daily Journal, which is published in San Francisco and Los Angeles and one of two daily newspapers that cover law firms in California.
The March 5 issue of the Journal includes a supplement that features the top Northern California law firms and the publication's annual ranking of the 20 largest law firms in the area. This year, the Journal compiled an unranked list of firms that have handled significant litigation matters and Heller Ehrman is among the 10 firms that are recognized.
In the short article that accompanies the list, the Journal focuses on the firm's representation of clients in major antitrust, securities and intellectual property disputes. The article explains that Heller Ehrman has represented industry-leading companies, like Ernst & Young, Genentech, Merck KGaA, Microsoft, Palm and Visa. Also mentioned is the firm's successful representation of former JDS Uniphase chief executive Kevin Kalkhoven in a three-week jury trial that followed several years of litigation.
Heller Ehrman also has received recognition in other recent rankings. For example, in 2007, the firm was named as a premier “Bet-the-Company” law firm by BTI Consulting Group in BTI Power Rankings: The BTI Client Relationship Scorecard for Law Firms. According to BTI, Heller Ehrman’s position was based on earning clients’ votes of confidence for critical matters or crisis situations and the firm’s ability to handle high-priority, high-value matters.
In July 2007, Chambers & Partners recognized 40 of Heller Ehrman’s attorneys as leading lawyers in their respective practices in the 2007 edition of Chambers USA -- America’s Leading Lawyers for Business. Heller Ehrman also received recognition for 13 of its practices. Nine attorneys and five practices from the firm received No. 1-level rankings.
In May 2007, Heller Ehrman was named a “Go-To Law Firm” for Financial Services Companies by American Lawyer Media (ALM), based on its survey of general counsel at leading financial services companies. According to ALM, the surveys and research focused on several areas of legal services, including litigation, corporate transactions/mergers & acquisitions, regulatory affairs/compliance, securities, banking/finance, labor/employment and intellectual property.
