Benefits

Heller Ehrman offers our professional support staff innovative and competitive benefits including:

  • Heller Ehrman offers medical, dental and vision benefits under a "cafeteria style" plan. Employees can select their coverage from different plans and have the freedom to enroll their dependents (including domestic partners) in some or all of the plans they choose. Employees and their dependents are covered from the first day of employment. The firm also offers health care and dependent care pre-tax reimbursement accounts. In addition, we also offer public transportation subsidies, emergency child care programs and a host of other perks.
  • The firm provides insurance and leave programs designed to meet the employee's needs in cases of unexpected emergencies, including Life Insurance and Short- and Long-term Disability Insurance. The leave of absence plans include 16 weeks of Family Care and Medical Leave, 16 weeks of Extended Family Leave, Pregnancy Disability Leave, Medical Disability Leave, Workers' Compensation Disability Leave, and Personal Leave. In addition to the above leaves, the firm also offers School Participation Leave and Military Leave.
  • Employees can enroll in the firm's 401(k) Plan on their first day of employment and can contribute up to 50 percent of their base earnings and 100 percent of their overtime and bonus (subject to federal maximum limits). Employees can designate different amounts to be deducted from their salary. Employees are also automatically enrolled in our profit-sharing plan after one calendar year of service, which makes them eligible for annual profit-sharing contributions. These contributions are irrespective of individual 401(k) contributions. The plan also allows loans to be taken out against the employee's balance. The 401(k) Plan offers up-to-date information via the plan's Internet site, and trades can be made online or via the phone with a representative.
  • Vacation and sick leave begin accruing on the first day of employment. Vacation begins to accrue at an annual rate of 11 days per year for most staff and 16 days per year for paralegals and managers. Accrual rates increase with tenure at the firm to a maximum of 21 days per year.

Other things that make Heller Ehrman a special place to work:

  • All employees are eligible for a merit-based bonus paid in December.
  • The firm has three employee-recognition programs for staff designed to acknowledge tenure, individual efforts above and beyond the call of duty, and community service.
