
Brendan Mangan joined the firm in 1990 and became a shareholder in 1995. He is the Managing Shareholder for the Seattle Office and is a member of the Securities Litigation and Intellectual Property Litigation Practice Groups. He has a varied litigation practice emphasizing securities, antitrust, and intellectual property issues.

- Lead responsibility for defense of shareholder class actions against former officers of a publicly-traded mortgage company.

Intellectual Property Litigation
- Lead counsel in a matter tried before a panel of the American Arbitration Association on behalf of a consumer electronics firm that asserted breach of warranty claims against a software development firm. Obtained a favorable ruling on liability and a substantial set-off against the developer's claims.
- Lead counsel in a AAA arbitration on behalf of a publicly-traded software company asserting claims for violation of a software license. Settled after rulings establishing liability and limiting counterclaim damages.
- Lead counsel in a matter before the AAA Center for International Dispute Resolution, brought on behalf of a computer services firm asserting breach of contract claims against a consortium of foreign government agencies. Settled during discovery, after the respondents were compelled to arbitrate.
- Lead counsel in a AAA arbitration proceeding on behalf of an electronic payment processing company pursuing contract claims against a software developer. Settled during expert discovery, after a mandatory injunction forced the developer to turn over source code.
- Lead counsel in a copyright infringement action on behalf of a major manufacturer of entertainment software. Settled while our summary judgment motion was pending.
- Defended a major software provider against an injunction action brought by a licensee that challenged the requirements of a logo program. Settled after opposition papers were filed.
- Defended major software provider against federal court lawsuit alleging breach of software license. Settled while cross-motions for summary judgment were pending.
- Pursued trade secret claims on behalf of a major computer chip equipment manufacturer, arising from competitor’s hiring of key employees.
- Defended hospital network against contract claim by computer services provider. Mediated successfully before arbitration was initiated.
Antitrust Litigation
- Defense of antitrust claims asserted against a major chip manufacturer arising from its prosecution of claims for infringement of patents covering certain telecommunications technology.
- Defended a major software company against antitrust claims asserted by a defunct maker of computer operating systems.
- Defense of antitrust claims by the Department of Justice challenging membership rules of payment card associations.
Other Litigation
- Lead counsel in defense of claims in federal court brought by minority partners against a national provider of wireless telecommunications services. The court granted summary judgment dismissing all claims.
- Lead counsel for a national airline in a federal court action arising from breach of a multi-year contract to maintain a fleet of Boeing aircraft. A four-week jury trial resulted in a favorable verdict and damage award.
- Pursued insurance coverage claims on behalf of large chemical distributor. Through successive dispositive motions, virtually all the coverage needed for environmental clean-up was secured.
