Brian D. Kaider joined the firm in 1998 and is a member of the Intellectual Property Litigation and Patents & Trademarks Practice Groups.

Experience

Mr. Kaider's practice includes all phases of patent infringement suits involving biotech, chemical, mechanical, metallurgical, and pharmaceutical technologies. He has represented clients in various federal district courts and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit as well as Section 337 cases at the U.S. International Trade Commission. Mr. Kaider also has experience in trademark matters, including representing a client in a series of actions against importers of goods bearing counterfeit trademarks.

In addition to litigation, Mr. Kaider has experience in patent preparation and prosecution, securing intellectual property rights in various biotechnological disciplines, including immunology, protein chemistry and recombinant DNA. His experience before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has involved all facets of prosecution, including the preparation of patent applications, filing of amendments and appeal briefs, and interviewing examiners.

Mr. Kaider also leads an annual mock trial program with deaf students from Gallaudet University. Prior to joining Heller Ehrman, Mr. Kaider was the Assistant Laboratory Supervisor of the Reproductive Immunology Laboratory at The Center for Human Reproduction in Chicago.
