Rima J. Alaily joined the firm in 1999 and practices litigation. She is a member of the Antitrust & Trade Regulation Practice Group.
Ms. Alaily practices principally in the areas of antitrust and complex commercial litigation, including class actions. She has been involved in many aspects of federal, state and coordinated multi-district litigation. She has worked on antitrust class actions brought on behalf of consumers against both Microsoft and Visa. Ms. Alaily has also represented various corporations in commercial litigation in state and federal trial and appellate courts.
Ms. Alaily is also dedicates a portion of her practice to providing individuals with legal services pro bono. She primarily helps victims of domestic violence obtain protection orders and determine child custody in connection with divorce proceedings. She was a member of the appellate team that convinced the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in Hernandez v. Ashcroft to recognize the non-violent aspects of domestic violence and provide important redress for immigrants who are victims of domestic violence. In recognition of her pro bono work, Ms. Alaily received the firm's Richard E. Guggenhime Award in 2003. She currently serves on the firm's Pro Bono Committee and the Legal Committee for the Northwest Women's Law Center.
Prior to joining Heller Ehrman, Ms. Alaily was a law clerk to the Honorable Robert L. Eastaugh of the Alaska Supreme Court in Anchorage.
